(Romans 12:13)

The Meal Ministry of Grace exists to provide meals to members in need or crisis. The second tier of meal provision after small groups, the Meal Ministry provides meals to families on a short or long-term basis, depending on the need.

As exhorted in Romans 12:13, the Meal Ministry seeks to share with God's people who are in need and practice hospitality. Grace understands that there may come a time when an individual or family experiences a particular hardship and needs the loving support of family, friends and the body of Christ.

How to Pray for your missionary - How to Pray

Local Outreach
National Outreach
International Outreach
Retired Missionaries

Your partnership with those who are communicating the message of Jesus Christ to the world is very important.  This, like any partnership, must have at least two committed parties.  Through your commitment to faithfully pray, your ministry partner is enabled to uphold his/her commitment to build the church on site."There is a living God; He has spoken in the Bible;
He means what He says and will do all He has promised."
-J. Hudson Taylor-

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
Missionaries struggle, just like we do, in their relationship with God. Their most pressing needs are:Intimacy with GodExercise of Spiritual disciplinesSpiritual & emotional growth

PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS
Satan often discourages us through our physical and emotional lives. Many missionaries live in climates filled with disease. Remember, preventative prayer helps. Pray continually for your missionary's health, safety, stamina and sense of priority. Pray against discouragement, loneliness and depression. Write and ask what specific spiritual strongholds and barriers they face personally and in ministry.Adaptation to climateHealth in the midst of diseaseSafety in dangerComfort in loneliness and discouragementVictory over the enemy

EFFECTIVE MINISTRY
Pray for your missionary's ministry responsibilities. Include requests for boldness, open doors, open hearts and excellence in the effort. Most of all, ask the Holy Spirit to empower your missionary to be productive. (John 15:16)Teaching, Preaching, WitnessingBoldness, open doors (Col. 4:2-4)Prepare hearts, fruitfulness

FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS
Pray for family relationships - husband/wife, parent/child. Pray for the children's salvation, spiritual growth, health and education. Also, pray that their family life will provide an excellent model for local Christians and non-believers. Pray against the temptations that destroy families. If your missionary is single, pray that God meets his/her needs in this area. Pray for strong, healthy friendships.Husband/wifeChildren/parentsFamily life as model to NationalsSingleness

TEAM RELATIONSHIPS
Your missionary is probably not completely on his own. Normally, missionaries team up with other missionaries, local believers, pastors and evangelists. Unfortunately, this mix of personalities, designed to strengthen the ministry, can sometimes be used by Satan to weaken it. Poor team relationships can spoil the work. Pray for all the fellow workers your missionary mentions in his letters. Pray that they appreciate and sharpen one another in good and healthy ways.Other MissionariesNational Christian Leaders and Friends

ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE
Whether your missionary is communicating with his life or lips, he must be understood. Learning a new language and adapting to a new culture are frustrating and difficult, but essential to good communication. Even an elementary knowledge of some languages takes years of study and practice. And a superficial understanding is insufficient for communicating spiritual truths and defending the faith. To really communicate, the missionary must adapt culturally in order to identify with those he is trying to reach, which means adjusting lifestyle and cultural preferences. Pray that your missionary will have the stamina and understanding to demonstrate Christ cross-culturally.Language StudyContinual Improvement in FluencyCultural adaptation/Understanding

COUNTRY OF SERVICE
Pray for the entire country where your missionary is located. The political situation, the government and its leaders, visas and freedom to preach the gospel are all important factors in world evangelization. You can also pray that the whole country will open up in responsiveness to the gospel.Government - National and LocalPolitical SituationVisas, Continued Open DoorOutreach to Cities, Villages, Tribes

At Grace we are blessed by joining with you in song and hearing a Word from the Lord on Sunday mornings. But we also want the Word to stay with you throughout the week and beyond. We want you to take what you heard and GO DEEPER in thought and life application. God continues to speak when His people meditate on His Word. So we put together notes with questions to help you continue to process what you heard on Sunday morning, or via mp3. Let God continue to speak to you long after you leave the worship center...see "Going Deeper / Message Notes" below. 2007 Archives / 2006 Archives2008 MESSAGES (by date)May 11 - " Vision Sunday " Series: Bad Blood - There's a better way to live

BELIEVER'S BAPTISM

Upcoming Dates of Baptism
Sunday, June 8, at Stony Creek Metro Park
Register Now

We are excited that you are interested in baptism. We believe baptism is an important step of obedience for every person who has accepted Christ as his/her Savior.

These pages have been designed to explain baptism and the necessary steps to be baptized at an upcoming service. If you have questions after reviewing these pages, please feel free to email Becky Miller or call her at 313.882.3300, X251.We consider it a privilege to walk with you as you take this next step on your spiritual journey.Who Should Be Baptized

Christians believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, salvation occurs only when a person places his or her faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for his or her sin.

If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you are ready to be baptized. Just like a bride and groom show others their love for one another by wearing wedding bands, your baptism is your opportunity to show others that you have accepted Christ and are now walking with Him.

If you have any questions about how to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, please email Wayne Stapleton, Pastor of Community, or call him at 313.882.3300, X223.What Baptism Symbolizes

Baptism is a way of showing others that you have entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ. It symbolizes what took place in your heart at the time of salvation:Accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Shared in His death and resurrection, illustrated by going under the water (dead to your old life), then rising again (new life).
Were symbolically washed clean and sins were forgiven by His death on the cross.Because Jesus instructed us to be baptized, baptism is an act of obedience. While it is not necessary for salvation, it demonstrates submission to God. We immerse at Grace because we believe Scripture shows that Jesus modeled that for us as the way to publicly acknowledge our faith in Him.

Infant ChristeningSome denominations choose to christen infants. While we recognize the right of other churches to practice infant christening, we understand Scripture to teach that only professing believers qualify for baptism. Baptism does not make you a believer, rather it shows that you already believe. At Grace we offer Baby Dedication periodically throughout the year. Please contact Marsha Fenner at 313.882.3300, X225 or email Marsha Fenner for more information.

The baptism process at Grace has been designed to be both simple and meaningful. From the registration form to the baptism meeting, each step has been carefully planned with you in mind: Complete the baptism registration. Once Becky receive's your registration she will contact you to schedule you for the remaining steps towards baptism.
Attend a baptism class. Baptism is an outward sign of our inward commitment to follow Christ, and at Grace we are overjoyed to take part in this event for new believers. Anyone considering baptism is encouraged to join Wayne Stapleton for this new class on a Biblical understanding of baptism. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and find out how Grace views baptism.
Next baptism class: Sunday, June 1, 10:15 - 11:15am.
Read about making your video. We want you to be as comfortable and prepared for the video as possible.
Video tape your testimony. After we receive your registration form, we will contact you to schedule you to have your testimony videotaped. We like to do this on Sunday mornings making it as convenient for you as possible.
Get baptized! Beginning the fourth Sunday in July, we will have baptisms on the last Sunday of every month. We also have an annual summer picnic and baptism service at Stony Creek Metro Park the second Sunday of June. (Sunday, June 8, 2008)

Widening the Welcome - Leadership

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:1-4

Greetings Grace Leader!

I am writing to encourage you, as part of the Grace family, to prayerfully consider how you can help create a warm, accepting environment at Grace on Sunday mornings by "considering others more important that yourselves."

Here are a couple of ideas/reminders to get you thinking:

In his first letter the apostle Peter writes,"So I exhort the elders among you... shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight." The pastors of Clifton Baptist Church seek to provide care for the community of believers according to Scriptural mandate. They seek to "set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity" (1 Timothy 4:12). Each of these men are committed to the sound teaching of God's word and a Christ-centered oversight of the church.

The GodTime Cards the kids receive each week can be used as a conversation starter with your kids. The cards contain a paragraph to read with your child four days of the week. They let parents know the Bible story the kids heard on Sunday, and inlcude the month's memory verse. And questions for you to ask your kids and for your kids to ask you about how the Bible story applies to real life.

The first three Sundays of the month, KidStuf presents the same theme as the kids hear in UpStreet, to give you another experience in common you can discuss as you lead your kids in their daily lives and their spiritual journeys.

In May, we'll explore patience - waiting until later for what you want now. Our memory verse is: "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." -Psalm 27:14, NIV

In June, we'll take a look at humility - putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve. Our memory verse is: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves." -Philippians 2:3, NIV

Biography & Ministry - Mike & Debbie Brown

Debbie grew up at Grace when it was still Ebenezer; she was active in our church until she left to attend U of M. Mike was exposed to the gospel while he attended East Tennessee State. He trusted Christ through the influence of some guys in his dorm. As he grew as a believer, he became very passionate about sharing Christ with others.

Mike met Debbie in Kenya where they both were on their first assignments for Campus Crusade. Campus Crusade for Christ deals with evangelism and discipleship of university students. The goal of Campus Crusade is to equip and send laborers to reach the rest of the world with the gospel.

The Brown's ministry seeks to win, build and send university students so that each student on every campus around the world will have multiple, relevant opportunities to respond to the Gospel with the goal of seeing lost students become Christ-centered laborers. Mike and Debbie married in 1983, and had two daughters - both born during their 7 years in Kenya. They then worked for Campus Crusade at Michigan State for 6 years.

Currently, they are based in Florida working at Campus Crusade headquarters. Mike directs the National HR Executive Team and coaches team leaders in leadership development, ministry effectiveness, sending & recruiting and staff care. He also facilitates the Global Human Resources Steering Committee, which identifies, equips and resources national HR leaders around the world. Debbie coordinates the hiring and placement of all new staff, and is beginning a new role creating a national crisis management network.

WHAT IS FIRST IMPRESSIONS?
Before the first song is sung or the message is presented, people visiting Grace have begun to make decisions about their return visit. First impressions really matter. From the moment they pull into the parking lot, new guests are evaluating their experience with Grace. Within the first ten minutes they will be either impressed or disappointed. That impression or disappointment either helps them see Jesus or distracts their view of Him.

Stated more personally, people aren't going to listen to the message "you matter to God" until they have experienced Jesus' love and they know "you matter to us."

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

In Children's Ministries, we are joining together with families to lead children in knowing and sharing Jesus every day. With the help of committed volunteers called to serve in children's ministries, we strive to reach kids with the Gospel while training them to serve Him. We do this by providing a safe environment where children can enjoy great learning and loving relationships from birth through 5th grade.

We believe that learning should be relevant, engaging and fun. Each week we use many different methods to present the Bible lesson such as storytelling, drama, songs and activities. This results in Bible lessons that are age appropriate, interactive and relevant to todays children.

We want to invite you to consider joining our team and experiencing our commitment to working with every family in laying a spiritual foundation children can build their lives on.

TAKE A KIDS PLACE TOUR
See how volunteers make Kids Place the BEST hour in every kids week. Check-In for a tour 10 minutes before the start of the service at the Childrens Ministry welcome center. Our Vision
Life-Change in Christ

Our Mission
Grace Community Church exists to lead a mosaic of people seeking life change into a growing relationship with Jesus.

As we begin year number two under our refocused mission and strategy, the Grace Staff and leaders believe an increasing number of our ministries are beginning to thrive in the wake of this recent change. The hard data is encouraging. We've seen a 10% increase in Sunday morning attendance and a 15% increase in giving in the last year. The number of people volunteering is up 22% in the last year. Insight Class attendance has seen a 25% increase and over 100 copies of "Grace Notes" (our Life Journal commentary) are picked up each week indicating a growing discipline within our body to read Scripture.

After inviting Jesus to be Lord of her life in 1985, Kristine has experienced opportunities to serve Christ in East Africa, India and South Florida. In 1996, she returned to Rwanda to witness the Holy Spirit's deep work of reconciliation between people as they found healing at the foot of the cross, grace to extend forgiveness, and the freedom of being reconciled. Kristine began to see that God's hope for healing the nation lay in His people.

In 2004 God began opening doors to join Musalaha Ministry of Reconciliation in Israel and Palestine. Its mission is to facilitate relationships and reconciliation among Israelis and Palestinians, first among Christ-followers, then among their communities. People's hearts and perspectives are being changed as God breaks down the barriers between them. Relationships across the conflict lines are being made and reconciliation is taking place. Then, returning to their communities with new perspectives and deepened unity, their witness for Christ is strengthened.

Kristine is using her training and experience in peacemaking and reconciliation to help develop teaching and training materials that will address some of the issues specific to Palestinians and Israelis. Her vision is to come along side Christ-followers, encouraging, challenging and equipping them to be agents of hope, healing and reconciliation in their communities.
